I am directed by His Excellency the Governor in Council to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 28th of last month with its accompanying copy of one from the Commanding Royal Engineer regarding the Military Defences of this Colony.
The Governor has been pressed by urgent business that could not be deferred, that he has not had time sooner to turn his attention to this important subject and even now his comparative ignorance of the localities referred to in your and Major Aldrick's letter prevents his entering into the details that might otherwise have been expected from him.
His Excellency however desires to say that the two plans specially referred to by Major Aldrick the one for fortifying the Syrom Passage and
